Impala-basic instincts - as the "bambi's" of the African bush the grace and beauty of the impala belie their eternal persecution as they feature high on the menu of nearly all of Africa's predators.

Shot in Mala Mala Game Reserve, South Africa, the film follows the impala herds to witness the secret birth of impala lambs, which are then left concealed in the brush as hungry hyaenas patrol by. With the arrival of the rains the herds sit it out but with the new life in the air the youngsters are soon charging around the veld gracing it with joy. But life is not always rosy and every night they tense themselves for the onslaught as leopards, lions and hyaenas prowl the game trails in search of this beauty. Even by day the persecution continues with African wild dogs and other predators on the hunt.

Relishing the hard conditions thrown at them by Africa, impala are a very adaptable and successful species. Man's subsequent blasé attitude adopted towards them loses sight of the elegance of this species, which this production eloquently represents.
